The Pittsburgh Penguins NHL hockey club has been around since 1967. Since then just about everything has change aside from the name, the city, and that they have a huge amount of fan support. Captain of the Pittsburgh Penguins Sidney Crosby has been nothing but good to the team since he was the first round first overall pick in 2005. Since then he has led the penguins to 2 stanley cups, winning one of them, a huge growth in fan base and visitation to Pittsburgh. Fortunately Crosby isnt the only superstar in the club. Russian Super League dominator Evgeni Malkin has also been tearing away at the NHL taking names and winning titles since his arrival also. As assistant captain Evgeni Malkin has become known for his tremendous amount of skill, his parents who are known and loved throughout the hockey community, and of course for his unforgettable face.

Taylor Gang

Taylor Gang originated out of the city school Taylor Alderdice High school. This group of friends isnt necessarily a gang, just a group of friends who like to hangout and rap. Represented by Rostrum records this crew is mostly known for the rap. Some of the more well known members include Pittsburgh own Wiz Khalifa and Mac Miller. This dynamic duo has been taking over the internet and also itunes with Wiz Khalifa’s first official CD Deal or No Deal hitting number 2 on iTunes 15 minutes after its release. Unbelievably though Wiz Khalifa was actually a very good student. Keeping a minimum average of 3.8 he later decided to follow his dream of becoming a rapper.

In today’s day and age, you cant drive down the street without seeing a Customized Car of some sort. Whether it be new rims, tinted windows, Underglow, or a compelte customization, car customizing is one of the most popular hobbies for a lot of people. Some people customize just the exterior of the car, others do the interior, some do under the hood, some soop up the engine for racing, and the real fanatics do everything. Some of the more popular cars to customize are Hummers, Escalades, BMWs, Neons, Integras, and most common are Honda Civics. There are a few main reasons that people pick Civics to customize. Civics are cheap, very light for racing, slick looking, and parts are generally cheap compared to other cars. In my opinion, the best looking and easiest to customize models of civics are the 5th Generation Models 92-95. There are endless ways to customize your Civic. Some of the more basic ways are putting on new rims, adding UnderGlow and LED lights, tinting the windows, lowering the car, and putting a new top of the line sound system. Also another great but somewhat expensive way to make your car stick out is by adding carbon fiber hoods and other carbon fiber items. Whereas some of the more complicated customizations include engine swapping, installing turbos and blow off valves, Cold Air intakes, Cat Back Exhausts, racing clutches and so on and so forth the list can go on and on. Some of the cheaper ways you can make your car stand out are window tinting, new sound sytem, LED Lighting and UnderGlow, and a new muffler. At the end of the day there are millions of ways you can customize your Honda Civic to either race, or just get some attention in the street or to represent you.

2011 Bridgestone Winter Classic

On top of the big news for the Pittsburgh Penguins Hockey club, the team recently discovered that they would be hosting the 2011 Bridgestone Winter Classic at Heinz Field. The game will be held at 1 P.M. on January 1, 2011 on new years day against one of the Pittsburgh Penguins rivals the Washington Capitals. Pittsburgh’s Mayor had this to say “We are honored to welcome the National Hockey League’s 2011 Winter Classic and excited for yet another opportunity to showcase our City, thanks to the success of our great sports teams and one-of-a-kind fan base, There’s no better way to ring in a New Year than to host this pre-eminent winter festivity, which symbolizes the resurgence of hockey in this great city. From the Penguins’ 2008-09 Stanley Cup championship season, to the opening of the CONSOL Energy Center next season, the Classic will be another historic highlight to continue the legacy of the current Pittsburgh Penguins team.” Tickets for this once in a lifetime event will go on sale first to Pittsburgh Penguins season ticket holders and suite holders on a first come first serve basis. If you are one of the lucky ones enough to be attending the game as I am, then you will be another one of the 65,000 screaming fans cheering on the team they love. All in all, this Crosby vs Ovechkin showdown is going to be an event that CAN’T be missed.

Consol Energy Center

The new upcoming Consol Energy Center is going to be one of the biggest things in pittsburgh since the pirates won a world series 263 years ago. Compared to the Mellon Arena, Console Energy Center is better in every way. For example, seating wise:

Hockey:

Mellon: 16,940

Consol: 18,087

Basketball:

Mellon: 17,537

Consol: 19,100

Center Stage:

Mellon: 18,039

Consol: 20,000

On top of all those seating increases Consol is upgrading everything else as well.

1,950 Club Seats
Two Clubs for conducting business or leisure
ADA Accessibility on every level
Fine Dining Restaurant with a seating capacity of 250
12 escalators compared to 2 at Mellon Arena
800 HD TV’s
One 4,000 Square foot Penguins Merchandise Store on top of 5 smaller stores and multiple stands

And many others. With all these amenities comes a price. The Construction total came to roughly 290 million. On top of all the upgrades the Penguins and the Consol Energy Center are also making some other changes. For example, Penguins home games will now start at 7 p.m. instead of 7:30 p.m. Also there is talk around radio and TV that Pittsburgh will soon be home to a new Arena Football Team. Another effort to bring more tourism to Pittsburgh coming from the Consol Energy Center is all the concerts being held there. Paul McCartney was the lucky one chosen to open up at the new Consol Energy Center on August 18, 2010. On top of that Lady Gaga coming to the center September 5, 2010 whos concert tickets sold out just 12 minutes after their release. The world famous Harlem Globtrotters basketball team is scheduled to appear on December 26, 2010. Other major concerts include Nickleback, Roger Waters, Chris Tomlin, The Eagles and many more. The first preseason game is to be held on September 22, 2010 in a Stanley Cup rematch against the Detroit Red Wings.
